By: Simon

So ya love skateboarding, but still haven't mastered the ollie? Having problems landing your kickflip? Why not and he'll get an answer for you.

[Rating 1, zone]Hey Simon,
I see all the sick skaters at the skatepark doing Pop Shove-its all the time. I want to learn how to do one, do you have any tips?

Hey Sk8tilidie,
You are exactly right, the Pop Shove-it is one sick trick! A Pop Shove-it starts off like an ollie before the skater jumps up and pops the tail of the board, making it flip 180 degrees before landing on it. If you want to be a respected skateboarder someday, you are definitely going to have to learn how to do one. However, this trick isn't for beginners. You must be comfortable on the board and have already mastered the fundamentals of skateboarding like the ollie and the backside. Here are some step by step instructions how to pull a Pop Shove-it!

  • First, make sure you have the same stance that you would have doing a Backside or Frontside. Put the ball of your back foot on the tail of the board and your front foot in the middle.
  • Start gaining speed (but not too fast), then ollie but push down (shove) with the ball of your back foot so that the board will rotate in the direction that you are facing.
  • Jump in the air while the board rotates freely under you.
  • After the board rotates 180 degrees, place your feet down on the board and land. Try to land with your front foot first and always land with your feet over the bolts of the board.
  • If you are still standing, keep skating without losing a beat!

  • If you don't get it on the first time, don't sweat it! This takes a lot of patience and practice. The most important thing is to be on your board as much as humanly possible. The better you can control the board, the easier it will be to learn tricks like the Pop Shove-it!

Do you need some cool skateboarding tips?, to Simon. He might not no everything, but he's been skating for a while and certainly knows more than your Mom does. Remember: never push mongo, and always wear a helmet.
