Another Big Machine lead singer Justin McCoy is hoping the band's debut album Volume I. will tear up the music scene when it hits shelves in July. On the brink of stardom, Justin reflects back to when he was just a fan in the crowd for the first time!
Sindy: Hi Justin! Can you tell me what the first concert you ever went to was?
Justin McCoy: The first concert I ever went to was Days of the New in Baton Rouge.
Sindy: How was the show?
Justin McCoy: It was a great show. They had a few bands on the bill. I think there was a band called Finger Eleven... and a few other bands.
Sindy: Cool. Who did you go with?
Justin McCoy: A group of high school friends.
Sindy: Did that first show inspire you to want to become a musician more?
Justin McCoy: It was influential. I think I was inspired by music earlier than that concert, but it was inspiring. It's always different to see music live.
Sindy: Has Days of the New inspired your sound at all?
Justin McCoy: Umm.. no. Not at all, really.
Sindy: OK. Can you tell me about what you're up to these days? You have a new album?
Justin McCoy: Yeah, the record is called Volume I and it's in stores July 21st. The first single we released is Where We Belong, and that hit the radio May 21st. It's just a really, really positive record. It's timeless; it's catchy. Overall, it's a really, really great record. I think we can all be proud of it.
Sindy: How would you describe your sound?
Justin McCoy: It's really timeless, we think. The sounds from classical days - a lot of our musical influences are from the past, but it's also really concerned with the modern world and what's going on today.
Sindy: So what specific groups inspired you growing up?
Justin McCoy: Such a wide variety. Mainly people who think outside the box, and continue to think outside the box. So in my earlier days it would have been The Police and The Beatles... on to bands like Third Eye Blind in the early 90s.
Sindy: How about these days?
Justin McCoy: Um.. I like The Killers a lot.
Sindy: And finally, what was the most recent concert you went to?
Justin McCoy: Jazz Fest this past weekend in New Orleans. I saw the Marley Brothers.
