The most anticipated CD in the universe is finally out - MTV announces the nominees for the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards and the Material Girl takes her Drowned World Tour to the States.
Unless you've been living under a rock, you know *NSYNC's new album Celebrity was finally released on July 24, 2001. The CD is getting good reviews and the band is being praised for their maturer songs and R&B feel. Many people think *NSYNC will be the leading the pack with their new blend of pop music.
MTV announced the nominees for the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards scheduled for September 6th in New York at the Metropolitan Opera House. Fatboy Slim's crazy video for Weapon of Choice starring spaghetti-legged Christopher Walken is nominated for nine awards including Best Video of the Year. *NSYNC's video for Pop is nominated for six awards including Best Pop Video, Best Dance Video and Viewer's Choice.
Other nominees include Janet Jackson - All For You, Backstreet Boys - The Call, Eminem (featuring Dido) - Stan, Madonna - Don't Tell Me and Limp Bizkit for My Way. This is one of my fave award shows
cuz it's usually really funny and laid back.
Madonna wrapped up her European dates and kicked off the US leg of her Drowned World Tour in Philadelphia on July 21st. Madonna dazzled the crowd with dancing, a mechanical bull, guitar playing, costume changes, and glitz and glam.
The show centers a lot on theatrics and stage performances with a focus on songs from her last two albums, Ray of Light and Music. The material girl is following the same set list she sang in Europe which only includes a few classic Madonna tunes. The show is getting good reviews but Madonna isn't pushing the envelope the way she used to. I guess it's hard to shock your audience when you've already pulled every rabbit out of your hat.
