PlayStation News in the August State of Play!
Some last minute PS4 and PSVR game news before PS5 launches later this year.
Aug 13, 2020PlayStation showed off some details for PS4, PSVR, and PS5 games in this month’s State of Play stream! No new details about the PlayStation 5’s price or launch date, but plenty of software goodness to sink our teeth into, so let's take a look at our favorite announcements from the stream.
More Crash 4 Details
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time was announced earlier this year, and marks the return of everyone’s favorite bandicoot. The game takes place after the third Crash game, Warped, and takes Crash and friends on a multi-dimensional adventure. Classic villain Dingodile is joining the cast of playable characters along with Crash, Coco, and Dr. Neo Cortex. Dingodile’s signature weapon this time is a vacuum gun that lets him suck up obstacles like TNT blocks, shoot them out, and lay waste to whatever is in his path. The game is also going to feature dozens of unlockable skins for the characters, as well as a new N. Verted mode that shakes up levels with new visuals and alternate challenges.
Indie Darling Braid Arriving on PlayStation
Braid was one of the first games to usher in the indie game revolution. The 2008 platformer is entering the next-generation next year. Braid Anniversary Edition features redone art to meet modern resolutions, in-game commentary from the developers, and the ability to switch back and forth between the old and new graphics and sound to see just how far the game has come in the 12 years the game has been out.
Genshin Impact
This fall, Action-RPG Genshin Impact launches. The game is a beautiful open-world adventure with over 20 playable members you can mix and match to create a unique party, and a world designed to be as easy explored as Nintendo’s Breath of the Wild. You can climb everything like in Zelda, but the monsters you and your party will face are colossal. Each character has an elemental ability they can use both in combat and exploration, such as ice characters freezing a river to progress. If the promise of intense combat and free-form exploration that can be enjoyed alone or with friends.
Bugsnax Gameplay
The game that took the internet by storm at its original announcement during the PS5 Showcase, Bugsnax, now has gameplay. Not sure what we expected from the bizarre game, but it is a first-person adventure game where you are tasked with cleverly trapping the titular Bugsnax on an island. To gain the trust of Snaktooth Island’s population, you will have to catch the residences’ favorite bugsnak and, feed it to them? This game is super weird but we can’t get enough.
Vader Immortal Releases This Month!
PSVR fans will be able to get their hands on the Star Wars experience Vader Immortal on August 25th. One of two VR Star Wars experiences hitting this year, the other being Squadrons, Vader Immortal has you exploring Darth Vader’s massive fortress on the lava planet of Mustafar. You get to experience the full Jedi Knight fantasy in VR, using the force and customizing your very own lightsaber.
The Pedestrian
The Pedestrian is a super unique game where you play as the little people you see on traffic signs. You as the player rearrange signs so that your drawing can traverse the lifelike environment.
Temtem: The Pokemon MMO Fans have Always Wanted
Despite fans asking loudly for a Pokemon MMO, Nintendo and Game Freak haven’t been able to deliver on that promise. Crema, the studio behind Temtem wanted to fix that. Temtem is a massively multiplayer game where you explore a huge world, capture unique creatures, and challenge other players to epic monster battles just like Pokemon. The game will be arriving on PS5 next year.
Godfall Makes the Most of the DualSense Controller
One of the very first games announced for the PS5 was Godfall, a “looter-slasher” game where you take control of larger than life warriors in intense melee combat. The game is attempting to create the most intense melee experience out there, thanks to the unique features of the DualSense controller to make each action feel as impactful as they look.
