When Microsoft revealed players would require an Xbox LiVE Gold Membership to use game recording features on Xbox One, a question was quickly asked to Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony's Worldwide Studios, via Twitter. Would you have to pay a fee on PS4? The famously casual president replied with a confident "no". Sony's next-gen console, Playstation 4, will not require a paid subscription to record your gaming action. The feature is free to use day one, right out of the box!
Video capturing is a huge plus to have built into the console from the get-go. No longer do you need extra hardware and software to capture your supreme victory over your friends. With a click of the "Share" button (replacing the classic 'select') on the new Dual Shock 4 controller, you can instantly taunt them via video messages, all night long.
While this new game recording feature is free, you will need a paid PSN membership in order to access online multiplayer features on PS4, unless a game is designated Free-to-Play (F2P). This is a change from the free online gaming PS3 offers, but with that new fee you get all the bonuses that subscribing to PS+ offers today, including monthly free games.
Since the debut of Xbox One, Sony seems to be taking the fight right to Microsoft's door at every available moment. It's excellent competition and will lead to some intense marketing battles for your dollars at retail this holiday season. The buzz around the industry hasn't been this exciting in years!
Playstation 4 launches sometime this "holiday" for $399.99 (US)
