There was high hopes for Sony last year as some people were wondering if 2009 would be Sony's year with PlayStation Home and major games being released. Expectations fell short, however, but the buzz is building again for this year as exciting rumors spread about new Sony hardware.
The most anticipated announcement is for the PlayStation 3 Slim. Both the original PlayStation and PS2 got a slimmer version so it is natural to assume that the PS3 will as well. Last month, pictures of a slimmer version of a PS3 and its packaging box were leaked on the internet. Cease and Desist warnings from lawyers lent the photos some credibility and people started to believe that a PS3 Slim might be on its way. However, an insider secretly told a gaming website that the Slim will not be at E3, as Sony will be saving the announcement for the Tokyo Game Show, along with news of a price cut for the regular PS3. The reason for this is because the Slim is not slated for release until late fall and Sony does not want sales of the regular PS3 to freeze before then.
Another big hardware announcement that is expected for E3 is that for the PSP Go!, the next generation of the PlayStation portable. Rumors about this device includes a touch screen, a sliding screen, no more UMD drives, and downloadable games. Fans are hoping that Gran Turismo Mobile, which has been in development for a long time, will finally get an announcement and a release date.
As for software, the long awaited Afrika game, by the creator of Harvest Moon, is expected to be present during E3 and fans are also hoping for some games that will make better use of the PlayStation Eye.
