It's been a while since we've heard from Ashanti or Gavin Rossdale, but they're both back with new albums! Kidzworld has reviews of both right here!

Ashanti :: The Declaration

If it seems like you haven’t heard from Ashanti in a while, it’s because you haven’t. She’s been acting, and The Declaration is her first album since 2004’s Concrete Rose. Even though four years have passed, it seems like Ashanti is trying to defy that the music world has changed since the time where she was arguably one of its biggest stars. Her songs are mostly about relationships and love and predictably cover both the ‘I hate you’ and ‘I’ll love you forever’ sides of the coin. So Over You is an upbeat [KWLINK 8246] Girl Power[/KWLINK] track that will probably see some radio airplay, and Body on Me is Akon’s addition to the album, featuring Nelly and suggestive lyrics. Thankfully Ashanti has an acting career to fall back on, because even though she’s still pretty and has a great voice, that might not be enough to guarantee success these days.

Fun Facts

  • Producers on the album include Jermaine Dupri, Darkchild, Akon, and Kanye West, among others.
  • This year Ashanti will appear in the films You’re Nobody till Somebody Kills You, and Baller.
  • In 2002 Ashanti took home a record eight Billboard Music awards.

    Gavin Rossdale :: Wanderlust

    A lot of people might not remember when Gavin and Bush were global grunge sensations in the '90s. Now he’s best known as Gwen Stefani’s hubby and little Kingston’s poppa. He’s also been working pretty consistently on films like Zoolander, Constantine, and The Bank Job, not to mention baby number two being on the way in 2008. Now Gavin’s back with Wanderlust[/KWLINK], which he describes as getting back to his musical roots. The first single is Love Remains The Same, is an easy listening song where Rossdale shows off his signature voice if not much else. Like the criticism he received in Bush, Gavin’s abstract lyrics can seem melodramatic and forced. There doesn’t seem to be much here for former Bush fans to enjoy, but he may be successful in attracting a good portion of Gwen’s young fan base.

    Fun Facts

  • The album’s original working title was This Place Is On Fire.
  • After Bush , Gavin was also in the band Institute.
  • The song Can’t Stop the World was originally recorded for the TV series Drive.
  • The album has two [KWLINk 9910]bonus tracks, I Don’t Want To Lose Myself Tonight, and You Can’t Run From What You Forget.
