Ricky Carmichael - Early Years
With encouragement from his father and his cousins, Ricky Carmichael started racing motorcycles at the age of five. He went on to have a great amateur career and in 1996, he switched over to the pro ranks. For the next two and a half years, Ricky raced in the 125 class, where in the 1998 season he won every single race!Ricky Carmichael - Moving Up
In 1999, Ricky moved from the 125 class up to the 250 class. Although his first year was rough, he picked things up in his sophomore season where he captured the 250 National Championship on his first try. Ricky completely dominated the motocross circuit the next three years, including a perfect 2002 season. During that period, he also surpassed motocross super star Jeremy McGrath as the sport's premier racer. He sat out the 2004 season to a knee injury, but came back in 2005.
