Would having 11 brothers and sisters be cool or chaos? Is watching a giant family fun or foul? Find out in this movie review of Cheaper by the Dozen starring Hilary Duff, Tom Welling and Steve Martin!
These days, most of us have one or two brothers and sisters - tops. Way back when your great-grandma was your age, she might have had as many as 10 brothers or sisters. If that seems like an impossible idea nowadays, maybe you should check out the flick Cheaper by the Dozen!
Cheaper by the Dozen - Family Tree
Okay, so these two peeps hook up in college and realize that they totally dig each other, and wanna have eight kidz together. And, as if that's not crazy enough - thanks to some twins and a few accidents - they end up having 12! With the Baker family being so enormous, they live in a less expensive rural town in a big old farm house. The dad, an ex-college football player, coaches the local team and the mom stays at home and writes when she's not trying to keep the kids clean and fed. But then the dad, Tom Baker (played by Steve Martin), gets the chance to move back to the city and coach his old college team. It's a lifelong dream so the entire family packs up (mostly unwillingly) and moves. Things are going kinda smoothly until the mom, Kate Baker (played by Bonnie Hunt), has her first book published and she leaves for a book tour. Twelve kids and one working parent equals a whole lot of chaos!
Cheaper by the Dozen - Family Fun
If you've always wished for a big family this movie is a dream come true! You'll get to see the chaos, laughter and complete craziness of a giant family without having to live with the hand-me-down clothes and shared bedroom. And, the Baker family is a cool one to explore. The kids range in age from four to 23 and they come in all shapes, sizes and personalities. There's 10 year-old tomboy Sarah (played by Alyson Stoner) and 16 year-old fashion diva Lorraine (played by the real fashion diva, Hilary Duff). For the cute-factor there's cutie brainiac, Mark (Forrest Landis) and total hottie Charlie Baker (played by Smallville's Tom Welling). Oh, and did we mention that Nora Baker's BF is this hilariously self-centered actor-wannabe named Hank (played by Ashton Kutcher) that the kids hate and terrrorize everytime he visits? Yeah, total laugh-riot!
Cheaper by the Dozen - Family Fued
The movie is an overall fun-fest, but there are times when you don't understand why the 'rents aren't a little bigger on the discipline. The eight younger kids; Kyle, Nigel, Mark, Mike, Kim, Jessica, Jake and Sarah are constantly creating chaos and they only get grounded once! And, they've obviously never been grounded before in their lives because they don't know what it means! How crazy is that?
Cheaper by the Dozen - Big Family, Big Fun
All in all this movie is full of good laughs and great moments. Hilary Duff, Tom Welling and Forrest Landis give stand-out performances that'll make you wish you had a billion brothers and sisters too! Oh yeah, and don't forget to catch the bloopers shown during the ending credits - they're almost as hilarious as the flick!
