Electronic Arts (EA) created the cool new Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup video game for the Nintendo Gamecube, PS2, Xbox and PC, so Harry Potter fans all over the world can experience the sport of witches and wizards, at home. Now they're taking it a step further by letting gamers compete against one another with the Quidditch World Cup video game Championship!
Quidditch World Cup - The Gaming Event
The main event went down in San Francisco at EA's HQ (Headquarters). Nintendo and LEGO pitched in to set the whole place up like a slice of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry - complete with magicians, owls, Quidditch games and more magic than you could shake a wand at. There were Gamecube video game stations for everyone to test their Quidditch skills on, and they even called in rap superstar Bow Wow to help MC the event!Quidditch World Cup - The Kid Contestants
Eight lucky contestants, five girls and three guys, from all over North America were flown in to meet Bow Wow in person, and compete in the Quidditch World Cup event. They were all between eight and 14 years old and had the craziest Quidditch playing skills in North America.Quidditch World Cup - The Game Prize
Each of the eight finalists scored their very own Golden Snitch and had a chance to chat with Bow Wow before the main event. The event winner scored a Nimbus 2000 broom. Plus, the champion gets flown to England to represent North America in the Quidditch World Championship match held on December 21st!Quidditch World Cup - The Main Event
For the main event, the eight contestants were given random teams (England, USA, Spain, etc) that they'd be playing for the tournament. Then they were paired off to compete head-to-head on Nintendo Gamecube video game systems. Each player was given 10 minutes to stomp on the other player, unless they ended up in Snitch-chasing overtime. Bow Wow was on hand to report the action as it happened. The first four matches had three Golden Snitch captures and eliminated half of the players.Click Here for the 411 on the final rounds of the Quidditch World Cup North American Championship and info on the winner!
