Immortals Fenyx Rising and More Shown Off by Ubisoft

Ubisoft takes on Breath of the Wild.

Sep 14, 2020

Ubisoft Forward is one of the many gaming livestreams that have shown off new titles this year. This week, Ubisoft gave us a new look at Gods and Monsters, or as it is now called Immortals Fenyx Rising. Gotta say the name is a bit worse off now, but the game looks to be shaping up well! When Immortals Fenyx Rising was first announced, it looked a bit different than it does now. Even from the start, the game’s cartoony art style and vibrant colors hinted at an open-world experience inspired by 2017’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but taking place in Greek Mythology.

Inspired by a Recent Favorite

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild changed how fans viewed what was possible in open-world games. The level of freedom in the world of Hyrule was great, so it was only a matter of time before other developers tried to replicate the magic. The idea of running, jumping, and more importantly, climbing and gliding through an open world made a genre that became a bit stale in recent years spark with new life. Immortals Fenyx Rising looks to do just that, but with the main character wielding godly weapons and items to help them traverse the Island. Combat in Immortals is faster than Zelda, and instead of just a glider, your custom Greek hero has a full set of wings. You still have to manage a stamina meter though so there is still some sort of strategy for exploration. The game is coming out on December 3rd, 2020 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X (and S), PC, Google Stadia, and the Switch.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake

Another big announcement was the reveal of the full remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. This game was super famous in the PS2 generation, and this remake is going to improve the cutscenes and gameplay for the modern era. At least that is the idea, compared to recent remakes like Final Fantasy 7 or even Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, Sands of Time looks fairly outdated. But, Sands of Time’s parkour platforming and sword fighting has not been seen for a long time so hopefully, the gameplay can make up for it. Prince of Persia later went on to inspire the Assassin’s Creed games, and with how many of those games have come out by now, it was about time for the Prince to come back in some form. This remake also features the original Prince of Persia, as in the 1989 Apple II game, will also be playable from the main menu. It is great to see classic games be preserved for the modern age, even if it might be a bit tough to play nowadays.
