One of the biggest video game franchises ever comes to the big screen.

It's finally happened, a live-action Pokémon movie is coming and we got our first look at the new film. POKÉMON Detective Pikachu, based on the 3DS game of the same name, centers around a boy named Tim Goodman as he and a talking Pikachu hunt for his missing father.
Pikachu Speaks Up
Voiced by Ryan Reynolds of Marvel's Deadpool series, Pikachu appears to speak in a regular voice to Tim but everyone else hears the same Pikachu that we're all familiar with. The film, made by Warner Bros, is the first live-action movie in the Pokémon franchise following decades of Pokémon anime in the form of both TV and movies. The trailer isn't just centered around Pikachu but it looks like the film will show off several different Pokémon including Jigglypuff, Charizard, Mr. Mime, and many more. POKÉMON Detective Pikachu - Official Trailer #1
Here's the official synopsis from the team over at Warner Bros.:
"The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe."
Bringing Pokémon to Life
Lifelong Pokémon fans may be familiar with the way these characters will look in their games but this is a more realistic interpretation of the creatures. While initial reactions on the internet seem to be mostly positive, there are certainly a few viewers who were surprised to see such furry looking characters brought to life in a world that looks similar to ours. We got a quick look at Charizard and even Mr. Mime using some of their powers but no sign of Pikachu shocking anyone, though he does threaten to shock Tim at the beginning of the trailer.
POKÉMON Detective Pikachu is coming to theaters this summer on May 10th, 2019. Take a look at the new poster below, and keep scouring the trailer for any secrets and easter eggs that are hiding in the video.
