There is a great misconception that Valentine’s Day is only for couples, the romantic or people in love. When in truth, Valentine’s Day is the universal day of love—a time to celebrate your loved ones. In a perfect world, we should show and express love everyday, but Valentine’s is that one special holiday where you can show some love to a grandparent, a parent, a friend, an auntie, an uncle, a cousin, a boyfriend or girlfriend and even a crush. You don’t have to have a valentine to enjoy valentine’s. Remember bringing a box of valentine’s for your entire class. Everyone got one, it was fair and everyone got to participate. Valentine’s day is not just about romance, nor is it now nor it ever was.
“Valentine's Day is also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine. It is an annual holiday celebrated on February 14th. It originated as a Western Christian liturgical feast day honoring one or more early saints named Valentinus, and is recognized as a significant cultural and commercial celebration in many regions around the world, although it is not a public holiday in any country.”
Society had made us believe that Valentine’s Day is only for those who are in love, married, going out etc. There is all this pressure to be with someone on Valentine’s day because you wouldn’t want to spend it alone. Everyone wants a valentine, but friends can be Valentine’s too. Make plans with a friend and do something awesome.
What could you do if you are single on Valentine’s Day?
- Go on a date
- Hang out with a friend
- Invite a bunch of friends over
- Have a party
- Bake something yummy
- Eat junk food
- Watch a good movie
- Play on the computer
- Talk on the phoned
Just because you’re single it doesn’t mean you can’t have a little fun. So turn that frown upside down. Valentine’s day is for everybody to enjoy. It gives you that reason to be extra bold. You could be extra brave and ask out your crush, or at least try talking to him or her. Give them a Valentine if you're feeling extra brave.
On the flip side, and you do have a valentine, you shouldn’t ignore them. Do something sweet for them. Even if you agreed you aren’t going to do anything at least get a card. I’ve heard horror stories of angry girlfriends who were mad they didn’t at least get a card. Everyone is in it for the love so get romantic and express your love in writing.
