Style Tips: How to Wear Pajamas All Day
If celebrities can wear their pajamas all day, so can you!
Nov 30, 2017Celebrities are finally discovering what kids around the world have known for a long time — wearing PJ’s in the daytime is a surefire way to amp up the fun and comfort factor in your day. Stars like Selena Gomez, Elle Fanning, Ryan Gosling, and Kendall Jenner have been spotted out on the town wearing their pajamas, and the fashion world is taking notice.
Change from Night to Day
We’re betting that Ryan Gosling didn’t roll out of bed and hit the streets wearing the jammies he slept in, though. His look is far too polished and unwrinkled! When wearing PJs as a style choice, whether it’s at school on pajama day or out to a lazy Saturday breakfast, you shouldn’t just jump out of bed and head outdoors. At the very least, change your underwear, brush your hair and teeth, wash your face, and make sure your outfit is clean and unwrinkled. But if you’re really going for a stylish look, it’s best to change your outfit completely, even if it is from one set of pj’s to another.
Wearing the right footwear can make all the difference.
But if you’re looking for a more fashionable statement that doesn’t scream “I’m too lazy to actually put on real clothes today”, accent your sleepwear with a pair of fashionable tennis shoes, a beanie, and sunglasses. And take care when styling your hair, too.
What makes daytime jammies different?
For one thing, they’re clean and fresh, just like day clothes. For another, they are appropriate for outdoor temperatures. Third, daytime jammies have appropriate coverage for heading out in public.
Why wear pajamas in the daytime?
If you have to change anyway, why change into pajamas instead of day clothes? Elastic-waist soft pajamas are almost always more comfortable than even the softest pair of jeans.
Onesies All Day
Pajama onesies have been a rising high school trend in the past few years. There are many different prints and colors, including animal prints like pandas. Some even come with built-in cat ears on the hood.
Pajamas are Hygge
In Denmark, winters are dark and last a long time. Because of this, Danish people are obsessed with being warm and cozy wherever they go, whether they’re at home, out with friends, or out and about. They even have a word for the feeling of being comfortable and the things that make you feel content: Hygge (pronounced Hoo-geh.
When you wear pajamas outside the house, you’re taking a little bit of the coziness of home — the feeling of Hygge — with you wherever you go!
Express yourself
Pajamas are also a fun way to express a side of your personality most people don’t get to see. While some celebrity red-carpet pajamas are super cute -- Elle Fanning once wore a pair of adorbs Prada silk race car PJs that came with a $2,000 + price tag -- there are many awesome alternatives that are just as cute and comfy for a lot less cash.
You can wear pajamas that give a shout-out to your favorite video games, like Five Nights at Freddy’s, Pokémon, or Minecraft.
Or your favorite hobbies, like sleeping, or saving the world.
If your school or your parents frown on wearing PJs out of the house, you may be able to get away with wearing flannel pants and a comfy shirt instead.
