In 2015 singer Selena Gomez revealed to fans and the press that she was diagnosed with lupus, and her battle with the autoimmune disease prompted her to take a break from music while she underwent treatment.
In an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show the then 23-year-old singer opened up about the experience, revealing that she was diagnosed in 2012, took a break from music and underwent chemotherapy (many gossip sites reported that she was in rehab- not true!)
"I think it was just very complicated because I didn't understand and then that was something that I did want to keep private until my whole life suddenly wasn't private. So, it was my moment. I'm really honestly able to relate to people and I get it."
Selena added that she is doing well now, and: "it's kind of one of those situations. You just have to take care of yourself."
In the summer of 2017 Selena Gomez received a kidney transplant from actress Francia Rasia due to her struggle with lupus. The singer revealed the news in an Instagram post and explained why she had been somewhat out of the spotlight this summer because she was recovering from the procedure.
