Everyone was waiting on the numbers. There were whispers that maybe Halo 5: Guardians wouldn't have the impact some expected, based off the release and reception of The Master Chief Collection.
Those fears were put to rest today. Microsoft has revealed that after its first week on the market, Halo 5: Guardians has had the biggest launch in franchise history. Setting all sorts of new records.

With "more than $400 million in global sales of Halo 5: Guardians games and hardware", Xbox Wire has also revealed the Halo franchise has now crossed $5 billion in lifetime sales.
Gamers have already logged in over 21 million hours of gameplay, 12 million of those hours spent just playing the campaign and "the widely praised multiplayer modes have also led to nine million total hours played with nearly seven million multiplayer matches played across Arena and the all-new Warzone mode."
Halo 5: Guardians also set a new Xbox One record, "with the highest week one attach rate for a Microsoft first party title on Xbox One, the game was the most played of any game on Xbox One, as well as the most played on Xbox Live."
What the attachment rate means is that a large number of people that bought a new Xbox One, also grabbed a copy of Halo 5. Console sellers still exist.
Looks like Halo 5: Guardians release was a smashing success. The series that made Microsoft a household name in gaming isn't going anywhere. Full report from Xbox Wire, here.
