Xbox One Now Backwards Compatible With Xbox 360 Games

Jun 16, 2015

During Microsoft's 2015 Xbox Media Briefing at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, head of Xbox Phil Spencer announced that they have managed to make Xbox One backwards compatible with Xbox 360 games. This is huge news as it was once thought impossible due to the difference in the two consoles hardware.

If you have been waiting to jump into Xbox One but have been hesitant due to a backlog of Xbox 360 games, now is the perfect time to jump into the current generation. And for those with both consoles currently hooked up, you can now save some shelf space and put away the 360.

The Xbox One Backward Compatibility Beta is available starting June 15 for Xbox preview members. The program will launch broadly in fall 2015. The best part? It doesn't cost a thing!

"The digital titles that you own and are part of the Back Compat game catalog will automatically show up in the “Ready to Install” section on your Xbox One. For disc-based games that are a part of the Back Compat game catalog, simply insert the disc and the console will begin downloading the game to your hard drive. After the game has finished downloading, you will still need to keep the game disc in the drive to play." says Microsoft.

All of Xbox One's current features also work with the Xbox 360 games. You can record and stream via the Game DVR and Twitch, screenshots can be taken, use quick swap with Kinect and more.
