Pop star Selena Gomez just released her latest album Stars Dance, featuring the hit world music-inspired single Come & Get It - find out more in the Kidzworld Review!
Stars Dance
Selena Gomez has decided to shed "The Scene" and go solo for Stars Dance, and this much-anticipated summer album is packed with EDM (Electronic Dance Music) pop tunes from start to finish. It's been a big year for Selena, and no longer content to just be a Wizard of Waverly Place, she's made the leap to grown-up pop stardom without losing her original Disney fans.
Selena's sound is distincly different from many pop stars releasing records this summer. The bollywood-inspired "Come & Get It" is the album's first single, and is probably one of the record's strongest tunes, but the entire set of 11 songs could get your toes tapping, and would feel right at home on any party playlist. Selena clearly worked with producers to come up with a slick, layered, dancing sound - the only drawback is that we don't get to hear much of Selena's natural vocal talent or emotion (there are a few sly hints and jabs at her ex, Justin, but other than that Selena doesn't get too personal on this one.) Borrowing sounds from around the world, "Like a Champion" has some interesting reggae overtones, and the very first track is appropriately called "Birthday," (it was Selena's 21st birthday this week.)
Her first solo album is party song after party song, with no rest, and while it isn't our fave Selena album, it's definitely worth a listen.
