Selena Gomez just dropped her sixth album Revival, featuring the singles "Same Old Love," "Good for You" and "Me & the Rhythm."
Revival
Revival is Selena's sixth album (including her albums with her backing band The Scene and her greatest hits collection For You, and her second solo album. For this record Selena finished her contract with Disney, and the difference is immediately noticeable. She and her longtime BFF Demi Lovato have always been able to pump out hits no matter which style of pop, but Revival sounds like Selena has finally found her own sound.
The Bottom Line
"The Heart Wants What it Wants," from For You was the first sign that Selena sounds better when she plays up her moody side. Instead of putting out another album full of dance hits, Selena taps into a more sombre sound for Revival. On many of the tracks her voice, often cracking or breathy, lends an mesmerizing sadness to simple pop songs about love. Still able to move from genre to genre, some tracks a little more R & B ("Good for You"), while others are classic synth pop ("Same Old Love").
Revival is an album that is totally Selena, she's back in the spotlight and sounds better, and more original, than ever.
