Aussie pop punk-rock band 5 Seconds of Summer are ready to climb up the charts. Find out more about 5 Seconds of Summer in their Kidzworld Bio!
Down Under Wonders
Hailing from Australia, 5 Seconds of Summer is made up of Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood and Ashton Irwin. Luke Michael and Calum met attending the same school, and got started by postings vids of themselves performing covers on Luke's YouTube Account in 2011, popular videos included their cover of Chris Brown's "Next to You" and Mike Posner's "Please Don't Go." By the end of the year they had found their drummer - Ashton - to complete the band line-up.
On the Road with 1D
Clearly talented, 5SoS immediately attracted interest from several labels and eventually signed with Sony, but even cooler than that, their number of fans got a major boost when they got a shout out on Facebook from One Directioner Louis Tomlinson, who posted their song "Gotta Get Out" on his page. Louis wasn't the only fan, Niall also gave a shout out to the boys later on, and it's no surprise that 1D took 5SoS under their wing and on tour as their opening act for the Take Me Home Tour in 2013!
First Album
In just a couple of short years 5SoS jumped from YouTube to touring with one of the biggest boy bands on the scene today. The boys were also working hard on their self-titled debut studio album, which dropped June 2014. The first song released was "She's So Perfect," which immediately struck a chord with listeners and climbed up the charts. They're often labeled as a boy band, but 5SoS has insisted that they're more like pop punk bands like Fall Out Boy, Blink 182 and Green Day (especially since they write all their own songs and play their own instruments.)
