Well, here's one way to push you DS and Wii owners into considering a 3DS or Wii U. Nintendo has announced that it will be discontinuing it's Wi-Fi service for Wii and DS first-party software on May 20th, 2014. This termination of services will be world-wide.
What does this mean? No more online-play, matchmaking, or leader-boards will be available for some of Nintendo Wii and DS' biggest games.
Games like Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and many of the Pokemon games, including Black and White will lose their online capabilities. So if you like to play those games online with or against your friends, you better get some last epic battles in before it's too late.
It feels a little soon for Nintendo to be pulling the plug already on it's Wi-Fi services but they must feel the time is right. Although I'm sure a lot of you Nintendo fans would argue that.
Nintendo noted that this will not effect Youtube, Netflix or any other such services that require internet. Wii Shop Channel and Nintendo DSi Shop will remain active.
