Unlike Microsoft and Sony, Nintendo did not have a huge press conference like they had at past E3 events. This year, Nintendo has decided to take advantage of Nintendo Direct, an online presentation livestream that had been used in the past to great success. Instead of one giant show, Nintendo decided to host several smaller shows made specifically for certain audiences. Nonetheless, big news was made and there is plenty to get excited about if you are a Nintendo fan.
Video Games Old and New
Lots of titles were announced by Nintendo during E3. For the Nintendo 3DS there is The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, which is a remake of A Link to the Past but with several new features and touch screen support. Yoshi's New Island is another game that is very similar to its Super Nintendo origin, while Mario and Luigi: Dream Team is a brand new game entirely.
For the Wii U, there is Mario Kart 8, which will introduce hovercrafts and upside down tracks to the series. There is also a new, not-yet-named RPG in the works for the Wii U. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD is a remake of a Gamecube game for the Wii U while brand new games include Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Bayonetta 2, Wii Party U, Wii Fit U, and Super Mario 3D World.
Smashing Good Time
The biggest news from Nintendo for fans will probably be the announcement of Super Smash Brothers, which will be a new game released for both the Nintendo 3DS and the Wii U. New characters for this new Smash Brothers include the Villager from Animal Crossing and Capcom's Mega Man.
There was also additional information released about Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, which will be released worldwide on October 12th, 2013. The new information included the new Pokemon type, Fairy, which is super effective against Dragons. Several new Pokemon were shown and a new type of battle, called Sky Battle is available for flying types and Pokemon with the Levitate ability.
