This week on American Idol (Season 12, Week 18), the final 2 contestants perform for America's votes one last time in the hopes of becoming Season 12's American Idol. Read Kidzworld’s recap of the “Finale,” which aired on May 15th, 2013 to discover what you missed.
In the Idol finale, Kree Harrison and Candice Glover were each challenged to put their best foot forward in their final three performances. The first round was American Idol creator Simon Fuller's choice, round 2 was each of their singles which the winner would release, and the final song was the contestants' favorite performances of the season. Also, Carly Rae Jepsen performed her new single.
Round 1
Simon Fuller chose "Angel" by Sarah McLachlan for Kree, and "Chasing Pavements" for Candice. Randy felt that Kree's song was weak and gave round 1 to Candice. However, Kree shines when she holds back and shows off the beautiful, gentle part of her voice. While Candice was amazing as always, this round should have been declared a tie as the songs weren't evenly matched.
Round 2
The song written for Kree's single was called "All Cried Out." The song had too many high points, forcing Kree to strain her voice to reach the notes. Candice's song, "I Am Beautiful," was modern and really appealed to her vocal range.
Round 3
The songs that each contestant chose for their final performances proved why they made it to the final two. Kree sang "Up To The Mountain," one of her best vocals of the season. Candice surprised us by choosing neither of her two biggest show stoppers on the show, and instead chose "I Who Have Nothing." While her original performance didn't stand out over the course of the season, this one took the cake this evening. She showed that she deserves the title. Will the country lovers out vote the soul lovers? We'll find out tomorrow on American Idol.
