The Party
In this episode, Carrie is celebrating her 17th birthday - her first birthday without her mother. But this thought doesn't seem to bother Carrie. Instead, she's more concerned about making sure that all her friends get their wishes granted too. Carrie plans to spend her birthday with her friends, but Larissa invites her to a big publicity party on the same night, and she doesn't want to tell Larissa that she can't attend.
Missed Opportunities
Sebastian plans to attend the publicity party with Carrie until his estranged mother asks to spend time with him. Carrie tells Sebastian to jump on the rare opportunity and attends the party alone. While speaking to a publisher who's interested in Carrie's writing, Sebastian arrives drunk and disgruntled that his mom ditched him. Losing her small window of opportunity with the publisher, Carrie takes Sebastian home. He invites her to stay the night, which she accepts until Sebastian's mother arrives, staking her claim on Sebastian for the night.
Harvard
Meanwhile, Mouse is meeting with a Harvard grad who she hopes will give her a good recommendation letter. But when the girl meets West, she becomes infatuated and forgets about Mouse. Now Mouse must be assertive in order to win back her Harvard hopes.
New Possibilities
Maggie and Walt are speaking again. Maggie confuses his unexpected apology for wanting to get back together. But Walt tells her that they'll never be more than friends now, especially since Walt has been pursuing someone new...the guy he met at Larissa's Halloween party. After confiding in Donna, he's finally opening up to the possibility that he might be gay.
The Birthday Present
While Carrie's father decides to surprise Carrie with a credit card for her birthday, Dorrit has a little bit more trouble finding Carrie a gift. While at the record store, she gets caught shoplifting. Fortunately, the cute clerk lets her off the hook. Later, when she returns to get Carrie a record, the clerk gives Dorrit something unexpected...her first kiss!
