This week on American Idol (Season 11, Week 7), the top 24 contestants perform for America’s votes. Read Kidzworld’s recap of “Semifinalist Boys Perform,” which aired on February 28, 2012, to discover what you missed.
How the Semi-finals Works
This week, the top 24 will perform live on the American Idol stage, each hoping to win the hearts of the fans. The top five guys and the top five girls, as voted by America, will move onto the next round. The judges will each choose one more contestant as their “wild card pick,” to create a top 13. But this season, more than any other, is riddled with talent deserving of the American Idol title. So who will make it into the top 13? It’s up to America.
The Semifinalist Boys
On February 28, 2012, the top 12 boys performed. The judges made an obvious effort to avoid giving negative feedback so that they wouldn’t sway America’s votes. Nearly every guy rocked their performances. The worst of the pack was probably 15-year-old Eben Franckewitz, who took on an Adele song. If he makes it through to the next round, we’ll know America’s votes are based on popularity and good looks rather than natural talent. Heejun Han, whose beautiful voice never fails to surprise the judges, picked a song that didn’t show off his vocal range. Hopefully America will remember his incredible auditions.
The Gentle Giant Returns
As promised, the judges brought back one of the eliminated boys for a second chance at stardom. It was the gentle giant Jermaine Jones, whose low baritone voice added a nice variety to the talent pool. Whether he makes it into the next round or not, he certainly seemed to enjoy himself on stage.
The Semifinalist Girls
After such an amazing performance show on Tuesday, the girls had a lot to live up to. Unfortunately, most of them fell flat, and only a few shined. Jessica Sanchez picked a song that really showed off her powerful, spot-on voice. Hollie Cavanagh has been one of the judges' favorites from the beginning, and she proved why be singing Christina Aguilera's Reflections. There was about five girls in total who really proved their worth, which should make it easy on voters. Choosing the guys, however, won't be such a simple task.
Tonight, we find out who will make it into the top 13! Check back to find out!
