Over 55 mini-games based on Olympic events are in this Mario & Sonic game for the 3DS! More details in Kidzworlds game review!

While the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games came out last year, 3DS users can now take the international event on the road with them. The 3DS version of the game is very different than the Wii version, featuring many more games, but shorter versions of them.

A Big Event

The 3DS version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games features over 55 different mini-games inspired by Olympic events. However, instead of playing out a whole tennis or volleyball game, you simply act out a basic action of the sport. For example, in volleyball, you don't have to worry about moving your character around on the court. Just time your button pushes to hit the ball.

Other events in the game include swimming, shooting, BMX, fencing, soccer, and marathon. Each mini-game will have you using different 3DS features, such as the touch screen, microphone, or camera. Among all the mini-games, there are some that are super fun, but there are also some that are a bit ridiculous. Of course, it depends on how you feel about blowing on your 3DS in public.

Not a Gold Medal Game

Overall, the game is a bit disappointing. Even though there are lots of mini-games to play, you will end up avoiding most of them in favor of the few that you actually find fun. To make things worse, you can only use certain characters for some events. Of course, it doesn't really make much of a difference, since they all seem to perform the same. It's a pity that the super silly and fun Dream mode and Party mode from the Wii version isn't included in the 3DS version.
