This week on The Secret Circle (Season 1, Episode 5)The circle mourn the loss of Nick, but they aren’t the only ones in mourning, his bad-news older brother Jake shows up to the wake along with some other surprise guests. The New Guy
Losing Nick has come as a huge blow to the teens, and they aren’t the only ones mourning. Cassie spies a blonde guy near a fire at Nick’s house, and wonders if he started it. He turns out to be Nick’s older brother Jake (Chris Zylka). But according to the rest of the circle, he’s bad news. Adam doesn’t trust him because he robbed The Boathouse and skipped town, and the circle’s bad girl Faye used to have her heart set on him till he dumped her and left. Meanwhile Melissa has a hard time coming to terms with Nick’s death.
Cassie’s Crystal
Cassie comes home only to be attacked by a girl trying to get her blood, but Jake runs into the house and helps her with his magic. Even though her Grandma and the group warn her not to, she tells him about the circle and how he is now a part of it. The only way for their powers to work is if he stays in town. Cassie’s Grandmother gives her a crystal that will help focus her powers alone, every witch family used to have one, but they are rare now, and so powerful that it’s important that Cassie keep it a secret. We find out that Jake actually knows the girl who attacked Cassie, and may in fact be working with her. Cassie’s Grandma asks Dawn to help watch over the teens, not knowing that Dawn has her own motives (wanting to steal the crystal) as well as being involved in Nick’s death.
Witches and the Wake
Adam and Jake get into a fight at the wake, and Cassie goes to talk to Jake outside, they seem to bond but after Cassie leaves we see Cassie’s attacker lurking in the dark. Jake fights with her and Cassie helps him with her crystal but doesn’t tell him. Meanwhile inside Adam’s dad tells Diana that Adam and Cassie are destined for each other, and that she should let him go. Diana has noticed his attraction to Cassie and breaks up with him, then runs to Cassie to tell her what she’s done. At the end of the episode we find out that Jake has been working with witch hunters, and the plan is to kill Cassie and all the witches in Chance Harbor.
