On Sunday, February 27, 2011, James Franco and Anne Hathaway hosted the 83rd Annual Academy Awards. The show was filled with deserving award winners, funny interludes by James and Anne, and some great musical performances. Here are your winners!

Best Leading Actor

  • Colin Firth in The King’s Speech – Winner!
  • Javier Bardem in Biutiful
  • Jeff Bridges in True Grit
  • Jesse Eisenberg in The Social Network
  • James Franco in 127 Hours

Many of you may not have seen The King’s Speech. But the reviews were excellent! Colin Firth portrayed a king who had to overcome a speech impediment, or a stutter, in order to make a very important speech.

  • Natalie Portman in Black Swan – Winner!
  • Annette Benning in The Kids Are All Right
  • Nicole Kidman in Rabbit Hole
  • Jennifer Lawrence in Winter’s Bone
  • Michelle Williams in Blue Valentine

Gorgeous girl-next-door Natalie Portman was the favorite to win. And win it she did, for her haunting role as a ballerina in the psychological thriller, Black Swan.

Best Animated Film

With only three movies nominated in this category, it was a no-brainer that Toy Story 3 would walk away with the Oscar. But even though it was a terrific movie—the best of the Toy Story trilogy—there were many other animated films that deserved nominations this year, such as Despicable Me, Tangled and Guardians of Ga’Hoole.

This category is another no-brainer! From the amazing special effects to the colourful sets and costumes, Alice in Wonderland was definitely a work of art!

Alice in Wonderland takes home another Oscar for its elaborate costumes. Another well-deserved award!

For those of you who didn’t see The Social Network, the film was all about the creation of Facebook. There was a lot of drama and betrayal that went along with this true story. And even though the film isn’t climactic, it’s worth seeing.

Well, it was a long shot. With the odds being 1 in 10, Toy Story 3 would have needed a miracle to walk away with this win. Nevertheless, we congratulate everyone who worked on The King’s Speech.
