American Idol kicks off its 10th season with a new panel of judges and fresh new talent. Check it out.
American Idol Welcomes Two New Judges
It’s season 10 of American Idol, and after only one episode you can already feel a difference in the tone of the show. Without Simon Cowell, there is no bad guy. Unlike the two new judges, Randy Jackson has had 10 years experience handing out rejection, making him the most cutthroat of the trio. Steven Tyler, lead singer from the band Aerosmith, caught on quickly. But he manages to deliver the bad news in a nice way. Jennifer Lopez, on the other hand, didn’t have an easy time with it. Sending the talented singers to Hollywood may have been gratifying. But when it came time to shatter hopes and dreams, J-Lo couldn’t cut it. She even started to regret signing up for the job.
Audition #1: New Jersey
The auditions kicked off in New Jersey, where 51 talented artists were sent through to Hollywood. This year, the cream of the crop seems to be the youngsters. The 16 year olds, and one 15 year old, stole the show. Some of the memorable voices included Robbie Rosen, a 16 year old who overcame a condition that had left him wheelchair bound; Devyn Rush, a 20 year old “singing waitress” who shocked the judges with her amazing voice; and Travis Orlando, a 16 year old whose family has been living in a shelter after losing their home.
Audition #2: New Orleans
Next the judges headed to New Orleans and discovered that talent comes in unassuming packages. Brett Loewenstern, a 16 year old with frizzy, almost Carrot Top-style red hair, looked like he beat to his own drum. But when he performed Bohemian Rhapsody, the judges were taken aback. He had a crazy, unqiue look and a killer voice. Another shocker was 15 year old Jacee Badeaux, whose baby face gave the judges no preparation for his beautiful rendition of Sitting at the Dock of the Bay. The episode rapped up with a tearjerker from Paris Tassin, a 23 year old mother of a special needs child, who sang with so much passion she brought J-Lo to tears.
Check back next week when the judges head to Milwaukee!
