Long time rivals Donkey Kong and Mario go head-to-head in their latest adventure, Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem for the DS. Is it worth playing? Keep reading to find out!

Mario vs. Donkey Kong

The story begins with Mario and his girlfriend Pauline celebrating his new theme park, Mini-Land. Just when you thought everyone was happy, Donkey Kong has to come and ruin the day, stealing Mario’s girlfriend in the process. Mario and his miniature versions must chase DK in order to restore Pauline’s honor.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem contains eight lands that the player must conquer in order to rescue Pauline. Each land has a different theme and relates to a different attraction at the theme park (ie. land one is Coaster Hills). Within each land there are eight different levels the player must complete, as well as a final boss level. The levels in each land gradually build upon each other, providing the player with an increasing level of difficulty.

Mini Mario

The premise of each level is simple: get the Mini Marios to the door as quickly as possible, grabbing coins and tokens along the way. In order to do this the player will need to reconstruct the level, using girders, conveyer belts and springs. While the premise is simple, the levels are far from boring. Each level provides users with a new puzzle, some of which are quite clever.

Fans of the original Nintendo characters and their longstanding rivalry will be crazy about this fun-loving game. While more advanced players could probably complete the game in less than three hours, it would take a substantially longer time for younger players. However, once the main game has been beat, players can create their own levels and challenge friends.
