Hey Coach,
Should girls be allowed to play football?????
malbear15
Dear malbear15,
This is a good question because football is such a violent sport and a lot of children, teens and adults get hurt every year. But did you know that even more children get hurt doing cheerleading? OK, it’s hard to compare football to cheerleading, but the fact is that there are dangers in many things that children do and there are measures we can take to prevent injuries.
Coaching Comes First
Having a good coach is important. Most injuries in sports happen when the coach concentrates on winning too much. The best coaches know that the health of the athletes is the most important thing. Here is a list of things that describe a good coach:
- Easy to talk to and friendly
- Answers questions
- Asks questions
- Describes and Demonstrates Sports skills properly and safely
- Always takes time to go over safety, stretching and health
- Set Boundaries for safety
- Treats everyone fairly
No matter what sport you play, there are dangers. Football is a very dangerous sport, but with the proper coaching and training, your coach will be able to determine whether or not you care capable of playing without getting injured.
Go Girls Go
No matter if you are a boy or a girl, the rules have changed and there are opportunities for girls to play all sports. There might be many people against a girl playing football, but if you show that you have the skills to play and the toughness to take a hit, then you have the right to at least try.
Quarterback Princess
There was a movie made about this exact question and it is called Quarterback Princess. The movie describes the troubles that a teenage girl goes through in order to get on the high school football team, even though she is the best player.
