She auditioned at age 17 and didn’t even get to see the judges. She was turned down by the producers in one of the earlier rounds. But that rejection didn’t slow her down. The 24 year old Los Angeles native Amber Riley was born on February 15, 1986. She was scouted for the role of Mercedes Jones by Ryan Murphy. He saw her on the pilots of “St. Sass” and “Cedric the Entertainer Presents” and knew she would be perfect for the part.
