Kirby’s back, and this time he’s a ball of yarn! Read the review for Kirby’s Epic Yarn right here at Kidzworld.
Kirby’s Epic Yarn for Wii is by far the most creative video game of 2010. The game reunites players with the loveable Kirby, although this time he has been transformed into a ball of yarn. The story takes place in Patch Land, a whimsical storybook place that has been separated by the evil Yin-Yarn. It is Kirby’s mission to retrieve the magic threads that hold the various patches together in order to restore peace.
Amazing Transformations
As indicated by the name, almost everything in the game is created out of yarn or has been knitted together. Kirby has also been transformed into yarn, and has been given special powers. Instead of using wind as in previous games, Kirby can now extend his arm to rope in enemies and coins. He can also transform into different shapes (ie. a train or dolphin) that allow him to complete special tasks.
Epic Gameplay
Kirby’s Epic Yarn has made it impossible to die. Players can still be injured, but instead of dying they will simply be sent back to an earlier part of the level. This is especially handy for younger players. In addition to completing each level, players can also collect colored beads and search for hidden treasure chests that unlock extra levels.
The controls are very simple in this platforming game with players turning the Wii remote sideways like a traditional Nintendo controller. The directional arrow key guides Kirby through the game while the 1 and 2 buttons let Kirby jump and use his yarn arm like a lasso.
Game of the Year
The game has amazing graphics; each level is bursting with colorful and textured backgrounds. There is a certain charm that the game exudes, and while it is not necessarily challenging, it is certainly entertaining and visually appealing. This game should be on the top of everyone’s list this holiday season.
