The results are in. And Ozzie Osborne’s bet that Michael Grimm would walk away with the million dollar prize left him $100 richer! Singer Michael Grimm (the obvious underdog in the top 4 of America’s Got Talent season 5) beat out two “Vegasy” variety acts (Prince Poppycock and Fighting Gravity) and the angelic ten year old opera singer, Jackie Evancho, who seemed like the shoo-in to win.
Final Performances
After the top 4 performed for the final time, Piers was the least impressed with Prince Poppycock. Instead of his usual upbeat, over-the-top song and dance numbers, he chose a slow opera ballad that felt like the end of a fairy tale. Unfortunately, his act was a sleeper compared to all his other performances. The other three acts wowed all the judges (except for a slight but forgivable mistake from Fighting Gravity).
Duets
The results show was packed with spectacular performances. The top 4 performed duets with other famous artists. Prince Poppycock sang with Donna Summers, Michael Grimm sang with Jewel, Fighting Gravity performed with Lionel Richie, and Jackie Evancho sang with Sarah Brightman.
Guest Performers
The cast of the Cirque du Soleil show Love performed, along with David Copperfield, the Goo Goo Dolls and Usher. The judges also brought back eliminated constants from season 5 to perform one giant variety act. And host Nick Cannon surprised everyone when he sang “Studio” with past contestant Sponjetta, and brought out T-Pain for a Cameo at the end of the song.
