The King has Returned! Re-live the most famous parts of Tolkiens classic tale and then some!
It is many years after the epic War of the Ring had concluded. The loyal Samwise Gamgee is now mayor of Hobbiton and has children of his own, Frodo Gamgee and Elanor. You play as young Frodo, who is named after the famous ringbearer, as the Hobbits of the town prepare for a huge festival that King Aragorn himself will be attending.
Hero in Training
As the festival is being set up, you can talk to Samwise and he will tell you stories of Aragorn's greatest deeds. As Sam recall these adventures, you play as Aragorn himself. A second player can join you in the story as Frodo's sister, Elanor, who plays as Gandalf during storytime. You cannot control Gandalf's movement, but you can cast useful spells and whack enemies with the staff. This is great for any younger players.
In between the stories, you control Frodo and can visit the various festival stalls in order to practice the skills you'll need as Aragorn. This tutorial system makes a lot of sense. Afterall, Aragorn should already know how to use a sword. Overall, the combat system in the game is smooth and interesting. You can dodge around opponents and swing the wiimote in different directions to produce different attacks with your sword. The motion detection is rarely perfect, but it does not hinder the game too much.
At the End of the Day
The way the story is presented in the game is pretty well done. The graphics are excellent for a Wii game and you can easily recognize characters by their face. The background is also very beautiful and the voice acting is pretty good too, although the mouths of the characters don't alway move.
Having no jump button is a bit annoying, as is being forced to stop and press A every time you get lost. A few minor problems aside, Aragorn's Quest is a very solid game that is great for new and old Lord of the Ring fans.
