Dear Dish-it,
Is it true that you have to be at least 100 lb before you get your first period???
AZ
Dear AZ,
Surprisingly, it's true that most girls weigh around 100 pounds when their periods start. Since starting your cycle requires a certain amount of body fat, girls who are skinnier or very involved in sports may start a little later. While this isn't an exact science and 100 isn't some magic number, it is a pretty accurate generalization.
Not only that, you can also STOP menstruating after you've started if you’re underweight due to an eating disorder or consistently over-exercising. So, stay healthy and wait it out. If your period still hasn’t showed up by your sweet 16, see your doctor.
