Jamie Foxx returns to mentor the Idols for movie week. Find out who your Top 3 Idols will be in this week’s Season 9 American Idol recap!
Highlights
- Tuesday was duets night with Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox killing their cover of “Falling Slowly” from the movie Once. Casey James and Michael Lynche rocked their rendition of “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman.”
- Past Idol winner Fantasia returned to the stage to channel Mary J. Blige with her performance of “Bittersweet.” Does anyone still care about her?!
- Jamie Foxx returned as Idol mentor to dole out some advice—and some over-sized t-shirts. He rewarded all of the Idols with “ARTIST” shirts, except Big Mike who forgot some words during rehearsal and was forced to wear the “CONTESTANT” shirt. Harsh, Jamie, harsh.
- Daughtry (led by Season 5 fourth place winner Chris Daughtry) debuted their new single “September.”
- Bon Jovi showed the kids how to rock with their hard-hitting performance of “Superman Tonight.” Then came the results…
Who's Out?
The Judges’ Save rescued him from elimination five weeks ago, but Simon couldn’t keep Big Mike in the running this time around. Mike’s outing follows a lackluster performance on Tuesday of Michael Jackson’s “Will You Be There?” from the Free Willy soundtrack. Mike’s had a long and interesting run—from the opening auditions when his wife gave birth to his baby daughter, to his snag of the coveted Judges’ Save—Big Mike has been a fan favorite since the start.
