NOTES:
Lightsworn decks are considered to be the cream of the crop, top of the top tier decks. Lightsworn users have taken the top prize at the last three Shonen Jump Championships. The main reason why they are so strong is because their support spells Charge of the Light Brigade and Solar Recharge, are pretty much broken and should be limited, but are not.

With Lightsworn, your goal is to use your monster's effects to quickly control the field, getting rid of spells and monsters. At the same time, you will be purposefully sending many cards to the graveyard and controlling your graveyard so that you can summon your big gun: Judgement Dragon. Though you can achieve a quick victory with a good swarm of Lightsworn monsters, once you have the Judgement Dragon down, the game is usually over.

The deck build presented here is a championship deck, having won first place at one of the Shonen Jump Championships. It is a bit light on traps and with Dark Armed Dragon, is a bit more like a Twilight deck, so feel free to mix and match some staples spells and tweak the number of Lightsworn monsters if it plays better for you.

    NOTES:
Blackwings used to be a contender for top spot until a few banlists restricted some of their better cards. However, it is still a top tier deck and is a regular in tournaments. The goal of Blackwings is to use their effects and Black Whirlwind to quickly swarm the field, turning one monster into five in a blink of an eye. Cards like Icarus Attack and Solemn Judgement help to control the field until you are able to make a big play.

The example deck above is a fairly decent Blackwings deck. The cards Delta Crow - Anti Reverse and Blackwings - Fane the Steel Chain are full of possibilties that many people have yet to explore. If you want to surprise some opponents, see if you can fit these cards in your deck somehow.

    Zombie

    MAIN DECK:

    • 1 Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind
    • 2 Caius the Shadow Monarch
    • 1 Dark Armed Dragon
    • 2 Goblin Zombie
    • 1 Gorz the Emissary of Darkness
    • 2 Krebons
    • 2 Mezuki
    • 2 Mystic Tomato
    • 1 Plaguespreader Zombie
    • 2 Pyramid Turtle
    • 1 Sangan
    • 1 Tragoedia
    • 1 Zombie Master

    • 2 Allure of Darkness
    • 2 Book of Moon
    • 1 Brain Control
    • 2 Burial from a Different Dimension
    • 1 Creature Swap
    • 1 Dimensional Prison
    • 1 Emergency Teleport
    • 1 Heavy Storm
    • 1 Lightning Vortex
    • 1 My Body as a Shield
    • 1 Mystical Space Typhoon
    • 2 Bottomless Trap Hole
    • 1 Call of the Haunted
    • 1 Dust Tornado
    • 1 Mirror Force
    • 1 Phoenix Wing Wind Blast
    • 1 Solemn Judgment
    • 1 Torrential Tribute
    • EXTRA DECK:

      • 1 Ally of Justice Catastor
      • 1 Black Rose Dragon
      • 1 Blackwing Armor Master
      • 2 Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
      • 2 Colossal Fighter
      • 1 Dark End Dragon
      • 2 Doomkaiser Dragon
      • 1 Goyo Guardian
      • 1 Revived King Ha Des
      • 2 Stardust Dragon
      • 1 Tempest Magician

      NOTES:
Zombies return from the grave thanks to cards like Mezuki and Call of the Haunted being released from the banlist. These decks play much slower than Lightsworn and Blackwings. Often, you will need to use your spells and traps to just survive your opponent's attack before retaliating with tuners and synchro summons.

The above deck is quite interesting as you will see that none of the cards are maxed to three. Usually this is a bad thing as your draws will be inconsistent. However, search cards like Mystic Tomato and Pyramid Turtle help turn this deck into a powerful one as you are able to consistently choose what you want and need. Krebons is a great card here, being able to help you survive with its effect while also being able to tune for a synchro summon.
