The second round of So You Think You Can Dance auditions is underway, and the Arizona dancers are bringing the heat. Like all cities, Arizona offers some fabulous talent and crazy stunts.
Shorty and Biggie
The auditions kick off with a duet from Brandon “Shorty” Smallwood and Demetrio “Biggie" Bargas. The two pals drove 19 hours from Oklahoma to Arizona just to audition. And even though their dancing wasn’t up to snuff, the judges cut them a break and sent them to choreography.
Scream and Shout
This week SYTYCD met their most hyper-active dancer ever—Jarvis Johnson. This bundle of energy was in fits and screams even before the judges agreed to choreography. But the structured dance style proved too challenging for Jarvis.
Fabulous Females
Next, the girls took their turn to impress the judges. First was 21 year old Sasha Mallory who auditioned in season 4 and made it to Vegas. This time around, her family has came to show their support, and the judges compliments brought her to tears. Next dancers Katie Muth and Ellie Soto followed Sasha’s lead and collected their tickets to Vegas.
Marvelous Men
Same-sex dance couple Jacob Jason and Willem de Vries moved the judges with their bravery and strong performance. While their lines and technique were impressive, the judges wanted to see if these inspirational dancers could move as elegantly with female partners. Sure enough, choreography proved simple for these two men, and they each collected their tickets to Vegas.
Feeling the Music
Allison Becker is a true inspiration. This 21 year old dancer suffers from Spinal Meningitis, a disease that could have taken her life, but instead has left her deaf. Somehow she has learned to feel the music, and has become and extraordinary dancer. Her talent and sheer will moved judge Mary Murphy to tears.
