Mini Ninjas :: Xbox 360 Game Review

Mini Ninjas have snuck their way onto all major console. They are cute and deadly, but will that be enough to earn them high ratings?

You can not judge a book, or video game, by its cover. This is especially true for Mini Ninjas. At first glance, the cutesy art will make you think that this is a simple casual game, perhaps one stuffed with mini games. But that is just the ninjas tricking you. In reality, Mini Ninjas is a full blown adventure complete with a story, sword fights, and magical spells.

Ninja Like

Right from the start, the beautiful artwork and graphics will surprise you. Despite using cute characters, the 3D models look great and the environment really goes a long way towards re-creating the atmosphere of ancient Japan.

The playable characters of Mini Ninjas are pretty cool as well. You start as Hiro and part of your mission is to find your missing friends, who will eventually join your team. Each character has a different specialty and you can switch in anybody you like at any time. Similarly, switching between spells is just as easy.

Un-Ninja Like

It will feel like the camera angles and hit detection are working against you whenever you play. There is no way to put the camera behind your character, which can be a pain during traveling and fighting. As well, you must aim your attacks very carefully, or risk missing entirely. This can be hard during a frantic battle.

At the same time, the enemy seems to have no problem hitting you. This is not a game where you can walk into the middle of a fight and expect to come out alive. As well, despite having lots of great characters, there is no co-op option in Mini Ninjas, which is a shame since there is a real opportunity for it.

Mini Triumph for Mini Ninjas

In general, Mini Ninjas does not feature anything new or particularly exciting. However, it is a solid action/adventure game that will not disappoint ninja fans.
