E3 2009 Preview: Nintendo

May 29, 2009

Last year a bit of a disappointment for hardcore Nintendo fans, who only got to watch speakers be excited for things like Wii Sport Resort and the new Motion Plus attachment, both of which still have yet to be released. Fans are not expecting anything new, like a new series idea from Mario and Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto. In fact, everyone is hoping for a lot of sequels.

Wii Fit Plus was recently trademarked by Nintendo, which leads to speculation around a follow-up to the popular fitness game. While Zelda Spirit Tracks has already been announced for the DS during GDC, fans are hoping that a new Mario and Zelda game for the Wii will be announced. Other famous Nintendo series, such as Pikmin, Star Fox, Mario Party, Pokemon Stadium, and Kid Icarus, are also on people's wishlist.

For third party developers, fans can look forward to the new Shaun White Snowboarding game that uses the balance board and a lot of new games by the creator of Harvest Moon, such as Sunshine Islands for the DS and Animal Kingdom: Wildlife Expedition for the Wii. As well, Atlus, the creators of Trauma Center, will be bringing Trauma Team for the Wii, which will add in new kinds of surgery on top of those that you are already used to.

On the technical side, it is likely that new DSi features will be announced. Industry experts are expecting a Virtual Console for the DSi that will come with old Gameboy games. Fans are hoping for the ability to transfer games between the Wii and DSi and, hopefully, the merging of points for the two systems. Fans are also hoping for DSi specific games, maybe a new [KWLINK 9018]Metroid[/KWLINK or Mario game, and the end of friend codes for all systems, but most likely these things will not be talked about in E3 this year. After all, Nintendo needs to save some big announcements for the [b]Tokyo Game Show that is happening in September.
