Two adorable baby meerkats were recently born at Sydney, Australia’s Taronga Zoo – the first meerkat pups to be born at the zoo in nine years!
Zanzibar and Nairobi are four weeks old, weigh just over 100 grams each and have recently started eating worms. They've also started exploring the zoo's desert-themed enclosure, which now houses five female and four male meerkats.
The pups’ keepers aren’t yet sure whether the babies are male or female – they’ll find out when they are examined by vets at eight weeks old.
Zanzibar and Nairobi's mother was brought in from another Australian zoo to breed with Taronga Zoo's resident male meerkats. Meerkats are native to the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa.
