Menudo Interview

Aug 28, 2008

By: Sindy

Menudo is back! The super-popular Latin boy band gets a revamp thanks to reality TV. New Menudo member Carlos Olivero took some time out of his hectic schedule to talk to Kidzworld.

Sindy: Tell me about how you started as a performer. What are your first memories of singing or dancing?

Carlos: I started when I was too young to remember. I remember doing a talent show when I was in Pre-K singing Elvis in front of the whole school.

Sindy: Who were some entertainers you looked up to when you were first getting into the business?

Carlos: Anybody who was talented and had the same passion as me for what I do.

Sindy: Menudo has such a great legacy and history behind it. Does that put a lot of pressure on you?

Carlos: No, not really. Honestly I don't think about it that way. I am confident in who we are and what we do.

Sindy: What do you think is your biggest strength as a performer? What do you have to work on?

Carlos: Hmm. Well, I have a lot of energy and I get really into it on stage, and the crowd loves that. And there is always room to work on everything to become better.

Sindy: What are your favorite songs to perform?

Carlos: I would have to say Midnight and Lost.

Sindy: Why is dance more popular with younger people now, maybe more than ever before?

Carlos: Times change and so does music. I think the bar has been raised a lot higher than before, and therefore people want to see both.

Sindy: Who would you love to work with in the future?

Carlos: Chris Brown. I am a big fan of his music.

Sindy: You guys were chosen as part of a reality show. How has reality TV like American Idol changed the music scene?

Carlos: I feel that reality shows are good to a certain extent because it gives people the chance to actually bring their talents to the table and try their luck, rather than getting turned down from a record deal at first look.

Sindy: What was that competitive experience like?

Carlos: Scary because none of us knew who would make it. To me, making this group was the only thing I wanted, nothing else came close.
