Roswell 2001 Season Premiere

Dec 27, 2006
Roswell has had almost as many problems as the aliens its based on. The WB cancelled it - twice! Luckily, UPN knows a great show when it sees it and picked up Roswell shortly after nabbing the Buffster. When a show jumps networks, it can be nerve-wracking for the die-hard fan. Will they keep all the characters? Will they put it in a decent timeslot? Will it still be good? After watching the season premiere of Roswell, it's clear that the show hasn't lost a thing - and it'll only get better.

First off, it's in a perfect timeslot, directly following Buffy the Vampire Slayer. There is nothing like some cute, sexy aliens to follow vampire dusting and lusting. Secondly, no matter who your fave character was, they all boarded the spaceship and landed at UPN. Everyone from Maria, to Sherrif Valenti, to his spineless, boring son Kyle. Obviously (and unfortunately) Alex is not back - he died, remember? And Tess is still off on "the home planet" with Max's son.

Where We Find Them

Maria is still a breath of fresh, sarcastic air - and she is still with Michael! Isabel has a new 'do (short and dark) and a new beau - some 26 year-old law dude who works with her dad. Michael, who blew off school last year cuz he thought he'd be living on another planet by now, is desperately kissing teacher butt so he can graduate on time. Unfortunately, his alien duties keep getting in the way. Oh yeah, and Max and Liz are obviously back together - and living life a la Bonnie and Clyde! They rob a convienance store in the first scenes- and get arrested. Whoa!

The Storyline

How did Liz and Max become gun-totting thieves? Well, luckily a few flashbacks put it all in perspective. Turns out, as Max is trying to win Liz back, he has a vision of his son - who is in trouble and needs his dad. So Max and Liz set out to find the spaceship that our fab four aliens crashed on earth with years ago. Sure, the thing is obviously a lemon, but at this point it's Max's only shot at getting back to their home planet to rescue his son.

The two lovebirds spend their summer in a series of weird and crazy situations that lead to them finding the spaceship under a convenience store in Utah. Unfortunately, getting caught by the cops screws up the plan. Liz almost ends up spending the rest of her life in jail. Thanks to Max and his dad, she's let go, but her parents aren't gonna let her hang with Max anymore. Max's dad wants to know the truth and since Max can't tell him the whole alien deal, he has to move out.

What's Next

I doubt Liz will stay away from Max. The girl is waving guns and risking jail - all of sudden she's gonna be a "good girl" and listen to her parents? Yeah, right. Besides, the chemistry between these two has tripled this season. I have a bad feeling about Isabel's new guy. The girl doesn't do well when it comes to picking men, and I doubt he's any exception. And talking about relationships, Mike and Maria were pretty much blissful this epi - but we all know that can't last. Afterall, they're only truly happy when they're fighting like cats and dogs. (And you know you love it!) There was no sign of the Valentis this episode either - and I didn't miss 'em in the least. Hopefully they'll make more use out of the two this year - and give Kyle a much-needed backbone, or brain.
