Its full of fast cars and beautiful people but its also overflowing with cheesy dialogue. Thinking of checking out Driven? I say keep on drivin - right past the movie theater.
I love fast cars and cute boys so I thought I would check out Driven. Unfortunately I don't like cheesy dialogue and non-existent plotlines. If you're thinking of checking out Driven, I say keep on drivin' - right past the movie theater.Driven is about two top race car drivers, a vetran named Beau Brandenberg (played by Til Schweiger) and newbie driver Jimmy Blye (played by Kip Pardue.) Jimmy has got a really annoying brother who is his manager and a total jerk named Carl for a sponsor (played by Burt Renoylds.) Because Jimmy is so new and kinda insecure, his driving varies from really terrific to really bad. Carl hires Joe Tanto (played by Sylvester Stallone) to race with Jimmy and make him more consistent. Meanwhile, Beau Brandenberg dumps his model-looking fiance, Sophia Simone (played by real-life model Estella Warren) because he thinks she is a distraction. She starts hanging out with Jimmy. Uh-oh!
This movie was written by Sylvester Stallone and sadly, he writes as well as he speaks. In all honesty, I think it may have been a good story, but someone edited out all the important scenes. The characters keep fighting with each other - and crying and freaking out - but you never quite get why. It's like there were scenes missing.
The only good parts about this movie were the racing scenes. They are long, action-packed and exciting. Between those scenes - which there were a lot of - and all the pretty people (even the guys are pretty) this flick reminded me more of a music video than a movie. In fact, they probably would have done better if they cut out the talking altogether and dubbed in more of the kickin' soundtrack tunes.
