Mat Hoffman's 900
Mat Hoffman made BMX history at the 2002 X Games by pulling off the world's first no-handed 900 in the BMX vert finals on August 17th. That's two and a half turns in the air with no hands! This mind-blowing maneuver helped Mat Hoffman win the silver medal at the X Games and also earned him a nomination for the Kidzworld Athlete of the Week.
Aaron Alvey at the LLWS
Aaron Alvey threw fire and hit for power to lead his Louisville, Kentucky Little League baseball team to 2-1 win over Fort Worth, Texas in the US semi-finals of the 2002 Little League World Series on August 22nd. Aaron struck out 19 batters over nine innnings, then hit the game-winning homerun in the top of the 11th inning to give his baseball team the victory. More importantly, Aaron Alvey earned a nomination for the Kidzworld Athlete of the Week.
Michael Finley Leads Team USA
Michael Finley scored 19 points and dished out five assists as Team USA thrashed China 84-54 on August 22nd. Much of the crowd came to see Chinese star, Yao Ming, but Finley and the rest of his teammates stole the show. The game should be a sign of things to come for Team USA which is a heavy favorite to the win the World Basketball Championships which start on August 29th in Indianapolis.
