Quiz the Coach - Skateboard Stuff

Jan 04, 2019

So ya dig sports but need some help with your game? Don't understand some of the rules of football, basketball or soccer? Got a gripe about P.E. class, teammates or coaches, or anything? Why not ? The Kidzworld Coach can help ya work out team problems or give ya tips and advice to improve your game - all ya gotta do is ask!

Hey Coach,
Do you know where I should start if I want to become a sponsored skateboarder? I can already heelflip, kickflip, ollie seven stairs and do boardslides. What company would want me?
sk8boy

Hey sk8boy,
If you're a good enough skater, most skateboard companies will wanna sponsor you. One of the best ways to get noticed is to enter an amateur skateboard competition. Many skateboard companies show up at these events looking for new skaters to represent their boards, clothes and other skate gear. It's also a good idea to send companies a video of you skateboarding so sponsors can see you in action. For more info on getting sponsored, click here.

Hey Coach,
I'm the best skateboarder in my grade and I never wear a helmet. I never fall on my head, even on some of the most insane jumps I've tried. Should I start wearing one because in a couple of weeks I'm going to try a six-step ollie?
sk8erboy

Hey sk8erboy,
It sounds like you may have already banged your head a few times while flying off some of those "insane jumps." Even if you're the best skateboarder in the world (and you're not,) you should still wear a helmet. Don't wait two weeks to start wearing one when you attempt a six step ollie. Get a helmet and start protecting your head now. One bad slip can make the difference between being the best skateboarder in your grade and being the 'tard in a wheelchair who sits in the back of the classroom waiting to have his diaper changed by the school nurse. Get a helmet and good luck landing a six-step.

Do you have a question on sports, P.E. class, fitness or health? Send it to the Kidzworld Coach. Keep in mind peeps, the Kidzworld Coach isn't a doctor or a professional athlete or anything like that. He's just a dude who digs sports, plays 'em and knows a lot about 'em. You should always talk to your 'rents, a doctor or your school gym teacher before starting a new sport or a new exercise.
