Scooby-Doo, the movie, could have ended up being a very bad flick. I mean, a CGI Scooby? Freddie Prinze Jr. as a blond and Sarah Michelle Gellar as a helpless airhead? But - jinkies - its pretty good!
Scooby-Doo could have gone either way - very good or very bad. I mean, a CGI Scooby?! Not to mention Freddie Prinze Jr. as a blond and Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Sarah Michelle Gellar) as a helpless airhead... but - jinkies - it's pretty good!
When we first hook up with the Scooby Gang, known as Mystery Inc., they're trying to debunk a "ghost" in a toy factory - for Pamela Anderson. Yeah, it's not the best beginning, but it does get better. After the gang gets into a fight and breaks up they are brought back together, two years later, by the mysterious owner of Spooky Island. It's an amusement park that is turning all the college kids into zombies.
If you're a fan of the old-skool Scooby-Doo cartoons, then you'll enjoy this flick even more. It has a lot of the typical, zany Scoobiness about it. Daphne always getting kidnapped, Velma always standing with her hands behind her back and Shag and Scoob doing anything for a Scooby Snack. But it's not so far into the old-skool that a newbie can't get a laugh out of it too. Two scenes in Scooby-Doo guaranteed to make even your crusty uncle giggle, are when the gang accidentally gets their plasmic orbs (their souls) mixed up and end up in each other's bodies and when Scooby and Shaggy get into a fart-off/burp-off.
Scooby-Doo's ending is completely unexpected and a little on the overly silly side. Still, Scooby-Doo is a trip worth taking.
Did Ya Know...?
- Shaggy is an extremo vegetarian and all those burgers he's always eatin' are made of grilled eggplant.
- Matthew Lillard screamed before shooting takes so that his voice would be scratchy like the cartoon Shaggy's was. He ended up with Laryngitis.
