1 Hey Coach,
Last year at school when it approached summer we began playing outdoor sports like soccer, baseball and other stuff at school. I'm a girl and girls here really suck at sports. I was a little confused. People started shoutin', "Hey, what are you doin'?" I think this year I know a little more but just to be sure, could you point out some of the basic, important rules of soccer and baseball? Thanks!
Rat Race

Hey Rat Race,
The best way to learn soccer, baseball or any other sport is to play. Once you've played any sport a few times, it's easy to pick up the rules of the sport. To get you started, here are some of the basic rules of soccer and baseball:

Rules of Soccer

  • Each team has 11 players - including a goalie. The object of the game is to score more goals than the other team.
  • Your team scores by putting the ball into the other teams net by kicking or hitting the ball with your legs, feet or head.
  • You can't use your hands. If you touch the ball with your hands, the other team gets the ball and you look like a chump.
  • The best way to score is to use teamwork and pass the ball around to your teammates. Don't just kick the ball as hard as you can when someone passes to you. Look around for another teammate who's in a better position and pass the ball to them.

    Rules of Baseball

  • The object of baseball is to score more runs than the other team by the end of the game (usually six to nine innings.)
  • Each team takes turns hitting the ball and playing out in the field. A pitcher throws the ball towards the player who tries to hit it with a bat.
  • A team scores runs by hitting the ball and running around the three bases to home plate.
  • A team is done batting once three of their players are out.
  • Three strikes and you're out.
  • If you hit the ball and the other team catches it, you're out.
  • If you get hit by the baseball in the head, it hurts.

    1 Hey Coach,
Why are people always chatting about Vince Carter and Kobe Bryant? What about guys like Jerry Stackhouse and Ben Wallace? Why don't they get the credit they deserve?
    rimrocka

    Hey rimrocka,
People are always chatting about Kobe because he's the best basketball player in the NBA and he's won two championships. He plays great defence and runs the show for the Lakers. Jerry Stackhouse and Ben Wallace haven't won anything and got their butts whooped by the Boston Celtics in the second round of the playoffs. They're both great players - but until you do some damage in the playoffs, you're nothing worth talkin' about. As for Vince Carter, I agree. He's an over-hyped chump who cries when he gets hurt and misses big shots.

Do you have a question on sports, P.E. class, fitness or health? to the Kidzworld Coach. Keep in mind peeps, the Kidzworld Coach isn't a doctor or a professional athlete or anything like that. He's just a dude who digs sports, plays 'em and knows a lot about 'em. You should always talk to your 'rents, a doctor or your school gym teacher before starting a new sport or a new exercise.
