The Seattle Mariners are the early favorites for baseball's 2002 Party Poopers of the Year Award. During an April series between the Mariners and the New York Yankees, security staff at Seattle's Safeco Field clamped down on one of sports fans' most amusing past times - making fun of the other team. Mariner fans are no longer allowed to hold up signs that say, "Yankees Suck", wear t-shirts that say "Yankees Suck" or show anything that may be offensive to the Yankees or any other team. Fans that showed up at Safeco Field with such signs or t-shirts during games against the Yanks had their signs taken away or were told to wear their shirts inside out. The team says those rules will be in effect for the rest of the season. That is lame with a capital L. It's lamer than t-ball or taking dance in P.E. class. Insulting the opposing team is almost as much fun as cheering for your favorite team - especially when the opponent is the New York Yankees.
The Yankees have been winning pretty much everything for the last five years because the team has buttloads of money to buy all the best players. They have some exciting and cool stars like Derek Jeter, Jason Giambi and Bernie Williams, but baseball fans are getting sick of seeing the Yanks win every year. If fans think the "Yankees suck", they should be allowed to be express that opinion. Hello! Freedom of speech anyone?
What do you think? Is it okay to make fun of the team you hate when your watching a game? what you think and let us know what team you think sucks the most.
